It has been 30 years since the establishment of the Stone Theater, or the former Viewpoint Theater set up in 1987. The Stone Theater was the first modern theater group after the end of the Japanese colonial era, set up by experienced theater performer and educator Lang Yialing. In the unbalanced field of art and culture in Taiwan, the group insists on developing theater based on local viewpoints. The group not only produces theater performances featuring special aspects exclusive to the region and unique styles based on its original scripts and other cultural and historical elements, but also tries out a wide range of plays of different forms and styles.

Once upon a time, there was a naughty 10-year-old boy, Xiao Li, whose family lived in Litoudian and sold white jute for a living. He had been hearing his parents complaining about the decreasing production of white jute for a long while and started worrying about the situation. When he was playing by himself one day, he saw a thirsty-looking pangolin near a well. He thought about the story his mother told him, so he went over to the pangolin and asked him why pangolins did not turn the soil, which resulted in terrible yields. The pangolin angrily said that they were the first residents of the place, but after humans came, the lands were all occupied, and they were lucky enough to remain asleep underground while humans took over their habitat, or else they might have to move away. Other pangolins were still sleeping and Xiao Jin (the nickname of the pangolin) was the only one to wake up because he was thirsty.
Xiao Li had no idea what to do after listening to Xiao Jin, but he recalled Wanhe Temple, where he often went with his parents, and headed there to beg Mazu for help as his parents did. Mazu instructed him to ask the villagers to stomp on the ground with wooden shoes and promise to protect Litoudian. In this way, they can wake the pangolins up to turn the soil for them.

The villagers did as Mazu said, and all the pangolins woke up to turn the soil, and things went smoothly in the end.

Xiao Li wanted to express gratitude to Xiao Jin but could not find him at the well. He went to other places to find him, but in vain. Therefore, he asked Mazu for help, and Mazu told him that he would have the chance to see Xiao Jin again during the Dragon Boat Festival by using the same way she taught the villagers to wake up the pangolins which love sleeping so much…
